Mental Health Services For Children

School Based Programs

Psycho-Educational Groups

Your child will also participate in group activities with his or her case manger and peers as a way to enhance their learning process. Each program follows a pro-social skills curriculum that offers a wide variety of group activities in the areas below:

  • Communication
  • Self-Esteem
  • Positive Relationships
  • Responsibility
  • Emotions
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Stress Management
  • And more...

Psycho-educational groups are designed to teach children among a small cluster of their peers. Children are most influenced by their peers, which makes these groups especially effective at reinforcing and practicing positive social skills. Your child will learn how to make friends, calmly disagree, resolve conflict peacefully, share, listen, and more. They will also have a support system of peers who will promote positive behaviors outside of the group setting.

Your child’s case manager will teach and reinforce new skills in four phases during the group process.

  1. Modeling: During this very important phase, employees will explain a social skills in detail and demonstrate how the social skill is used and in what situations the skill will be needed.
  2. Coaching: During the second phase, your child will participate in role-playing activities that help him or her practice the skill with his or her peers.
  3. Feedback: It is very important for your child to receive feedback about his or her progress using the new skill. Feedback is most effective when it is coming from multiple sources, such as the case manager, peers, and the parent.
  4. Reinforcement: Your child will be encouraged to use the new skill throughout the day, and he or she will be rewarded when they can demonstrate that they are using the skill in other settings.
