Mental Health Services For Children

School Based Programs

Therapeutic Youth Day Treatment

What is Therapeutic Youth Day Treatment?

Therapeutic Youth Day Treatment is a program in many of the public schools in the City of Richmond. Qualified mental health professionals provide services to help children improve behaviors and emotional well-being.. Children receive extra support at school, learn new skills, and have less problems with attendance and suspensions.

How does Therapeutic Youth Day Treatment work?

The RBHA team will:

  • Support your child in the classroom by monitoring, observing, providing reminders, and counseling throughout the school day.
  • Conduct daily groups that teach social skills, anger control, problem solving, coping skills, communication, and more.
  • Offer family counseling by calling you each week to review your child’s progress and assist with any issues at home.
  • Provide crisis intervention.  The RBHA team is trained to handle any situation that places your child or his/her peers in harm’s way.
  • Coordinate services through regular communication with teachers and any other service providers involved.
  • Individual and Group Counseling in the form of one-on-one counseling each week to assist with your child’s individual needs and in a small group setting to practice social skills and discuss feelings related to their behaviors.
  • Family Case Management through a case manager who is not at the school every day, to make home visits and provide support and counseling to the parent/guardian.

How much does Therapeutic Youth Day Treatment cost?

The cost of services is covered by Medicaid’s health insurance policies, so the guardian does not have to pay for anything.

How can I refer a child for Therapeutic Youth Day Treatment Services?

Anyone interested in learning more about our school-based programs can contact the Director or talk with an RBHA employee at one of the program locations. You may also complete a Referral Form to send to the Director or give to one of the RBHA employees at the school.

See our brochure or flyer for more information.
